Week 12: South Africa Electricity
I found this link to the website for Department of Energy: Republic of South Africa. It is similar to Austin energy or any public electricity unit. I always find it interesting to see how public electricity works in another country, and I found it intriguing that it says that demand for electricity has gone up . I do not think that this is due to a population increase but most likely due to more people in low-income communities asking for the electricity that they deserve.

Great resource and smart analysis about why demand for electricity is going up, Lorena! It doesn't say why demand went up, but I think that's a pretty solid guess.
ReplyDelete"South Africa supplies two-thirds of Africa's electricity and is one of the four cheapest electricity producers in the world."
This information makes the reality that a lot of South Africa's own residents don't have access to this *cheap* electricity pretty frustrating.
This page will be particularly useful in contextualizing the technical framework behind South Africa's energy system for our research.
Great source! This website provides a great starting point to be looking into the energy crisis in South Africa. I see mentions of Eskom, power stations, and the mining industry. These are all topics brought up frequently in other articles that cover Eskom's failure to competently manage the power failures, the breakdown of power stations across South Africa, and the mining industry as an alternative for solving the problem. Thanks for the post!
